Medical ‘Conscience Rule’ Is Issued

WASHINGTON — The Bush administration, as expected, announced new protections on Thursday for health care providers who oppose abortion and other medical procedures on religious or moral grounds.

“Doctors and other health care providers should not be forced to choose between good professional standing and violating their conscience,” Michael O. Leavitt, the secretary of Health and Human Services, said in a statement on his department’s Web site. (read more)

And now, because we know you wanna throw things at Bush. I wish people really reacted to the importance of such a ruling, handed down from on high and not from the courts, where it should eventually end up.

It's not just the no abortions or birth control options that will obviously leap to mind first, What if your prescriber is in AA and against pain meds or tranquilizers?

You would think Big Pharma would rush to suppress this, but for all we know, that's what they've been doing all along, and we've finally been told that a lot of drugs just don't work for certain people. I've taken dozens of OTC remedies for colds over the years, and few have cured me any faster, some didn't even help the symptoms they claimed to. The failure rate among prescription drugs must be larger than we think.
